Our History
The greenhouse experience for our family started back in 2002 when we and our first daughter moved from Paulding County, Ohio to North Central Wisconsin to operate a produce farm.
The farm included a few small greenhouses for spring flowers as well. Over the course of the next ten years, as we lived and learned, we began to see that flowers did better for us than produce, and by 2011, we had phased out the produce aspect of the farm to concentrate on flowers, shrubs, and trees.
In 2013 the Wisconsin farm and business sold, and we relocated back to Ohio. By now the family had grown to include eight children. We purchased land on Arrowsmith Road north of Hicksville, and the monumental project of transforming bare land into a greenhouse business began.
With the help of my two brothers and their families, we built six greenhouses. Strait Gate Greenhouses opened for the first time in April of 2014.
Through the following years, we added a nursery lot and six greenhouses to the south. New for spring of 2024, we have six more greenhouses to the east beyond the expanded parking lot. This additional space allows us to continue to grow most of the plants we sell.
Today my wife and I, with the help of the Lord and our 14 children, operate the business and a small homestead. We’re thankful to be able to work together as a family and enjoy growing a large variety of plants for our customers.
